Fellow former Lubbockites, be envious. Because very soon, I will be just a short drive away from our favorite TexMex place and those awesome tortillas:




Yep. By the end of the month (still can't find an exact date), Rosa's Cafe and Taco Tuesdays will be more reality than memory. Besides making me really hungry, the thought of Rosa's evokes some great college memories. I especially recall late night trips with my good friend Jen for tortillas and honey. Somehow we always ended up next to a table they'd start cleaning five minutes after we started eating and the strong bleach smell did not go with the tortillas!


This addition will bring the total number of Lubbock establishments in my neighborhood to four; there's also an Abuelo's, Market Street, and Bahama Bucks close by. Now if someone would open a One Guys and a Fortune Cookie, I would be set!

Crafty Notes

Taking a break from the usual numbers game, I've had a couple of excuses to exercise the right side of the brain recently. Easter weekend, Mom and I ventured to Austin to help re-decorate my cousin's guestroom into her almost 2 year old's "big girl room." Mom worked her magic with the sewing machine, making curtains, valances, and a bedspread for the new bed. I spent the weekend with a paintbrush, adding the cute bugs and flowers from the material onto the walls.

I also recently finished a marathon knitting project, this crazy squares afghan. Close to 4 years ago, I found this pattern and decided it would be great for using up random bits of yarn I'd accumulated. The squares are knitted individually and then sewn together, so it was a great road trip/watching TV project since I could carry just the colors I needed and not the whole afghan. In fact, as a testament to the length of time spent on this, each fall the squares made an appearance at at least one Cowboys game viewing. Where one person would ask, "What are you making?" and another person (remember the project from the prior football season) remarked, " You are still working on that?"

So, for anyone who doubted, the afghan is complete and stored away in the linen closet with all the other blankets. And while I'm sure there were some yarn skeins I used up in this project, I probably ended up with more colors than when I started, as I kept buying colors to achieve the right look.

Now the only question is, what will I do this Cowboys' season? Pay attention and learn the something about the game? Umm...probably not :)
