Always Something New

In our many travels taken via those brightly painted Southwest jets, my family and I have discovered each destination has more to see and do than the time we have allows. Which has led my mother to coin her end of trip phrase, "Oh, I'll just have to come back!" Some places we have revisited and others are still waiting to share the rest of the adventures they have to offer. But this Easter weekend led me to decide no matter how many times you visit some places, they still have something new for you to discover.

Kansas City was our destination this weekend, one which I have visited on many an occasion; from the National FFA Convention in high school to recent barbecue-inspired day trips. The trip started with a couple of firsts: Evan's first visit to KC and my nephew's first flights!

Between some KC favorites, like Jack Stack BBQ, Union Station, and Crown Center; we discovered some new sites. First, the Kansas City Library, who's parking garage is colorfully decorated with the spines of notable literary works.














And just around the corner was a serendipitous discovery: the former site of the Baltimore Hotel where, as any former FFA quiz team member can tell you, the Future Farmers of America was founded.

Even the repeats had something new in store for use.  Like the Hallmark Visitors Center, where along with the memorabilia timeline of their history and lots of ornaments on display (we especially like that part), they had a new photo opportunity, where my mother and I "donned" these fun hats.  

 And finally, because all good trips include good food, we concluded this KC visit with trying out a new place: Oklahoma Joe's BBQ. Good stuff!  I'm not saying it beats out Jack Stack (although that's a bit like comparing sauce covered apples and oranges), but whenever a KC trip warrants two BBQ meals, I'll be happy to add this as the second!
